Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center in Rüsselsheim is a young, dynamic company with its roots in South Korea. The Asian vibe can be felt throughout the whole company, making it a one-of-a-kind place to work.
Being built in 2003 the organization has been growing constantly since then and its 300 employees are responsible for developing future generations of vehicles for the whole European market.
In order to create original images and concepts, local trends and consumer life styles within the EU are studied. Moreover, we are realizing intelligent vehicles by developing semiconductors, infotainment and control systems for vehicles by expanding research into electronic technology. Developing innovative technologies, that allow both great driving performance through exceptional engines, power trains, exhaust systems as well as eco-friendliness has become an important task for us.

As HMETC is part of the Hyundai Motor Group its roots lie in the opening of the A-do Service Garage in 1940 by Chung Ju-yung. Driven by his pioneering spirit, he established Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Motor Company as the group´s primary pillars over the following decades. During this time, the group steadily grew into a leading automaker with business encompassing after-sales service and auto parts manufacturing. In September 2000, Hyundai Motor Group was born, signaling renewed ambition for enhanced global presence and dominance. The synergy created by the ten founding affiliates including Hyundai Motor Company, KIA Motors Corporation, Hyundai Precision Industries, Incheon Iron & Steel Company and Hyundai Capital has further honed the competitiveness of the group and taken the Korean automobile industry to the next level.
In order to build on the success story in Korea, Hyundai Motor Company started to open R&D Centers for all main markets worldwide. Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center was opened in Rüsselsheim in 2003. Its purpose is to make sure that every Hyundai and KIA which comes to Europe meets the demanding standards of the European customer and to adapt to the needs of that specific market.
Hyundai Motor Company is now a global top automaker boasting a brand value worth 7.4 billion dollars as of 2012. The company has a production capacity of 4.4 million vehicles per year in its plants located not only in Korea but all across the world, including the US, China, India and Russia. Its plant in Brazil, which completed construction in 2012, was a strong addition to the company’s global production network. Hyundai is reaching out to its customers through 6,000 sales points in over 200 countries, and its overseas production and sales offices in 28 locations. Hyundai and KIA cars are found running in 190 countries world-wide and an array of products covering all market areas are offered. Hyundai Motor Company has grown into a leader in Korea’s automobile industry and is amongst the five biggest car manufacturers worldwide.
In 2011, Hyundai Motor Company achieved the significant accomplishment of increasing global sales by 12.4% over 2010 and selling 4.05 million vehicles in the midst of the ongoing global economic crisis. Last year we surpassed the milestone of 8 million units per year for the first time in our history. The feat is the result of the good sales of Hyundai’s new releases that secured both economic fuel efficiency and attractive design as well as the company’s unwavering stance on quality management.
In the coming years Hyundai will overcome challenges with a lineup of compact and mid-sized cars with superior fuel efficiency. Therefore, our European Technical Center will increase its investments and R&D efforts in future growth including the continued development of eco-friendly vehicles.
